Our Charitable Mission
We at Spanish Mandarin Academy deeply value children. We acknowledge the greatness in children and recognize that they are, indeed, the world's future leaders. As such, they must be equipped with the best possible education to lead the world to further greatness. We are certain that an excellent education provides the skills necessary to take children to great heights. At Spanish Mandarin Academy we supply that excellent education. Not only do children learn to eloquently communicate in the 3 most widely spoken languages in the world, they also benefit tremendously from the Montessori method which instills in them an absolute passion for learning as they challenge themselves to amass greater and greater knowledge.
We have always taken pride in the level of excellence that our little graduates achieve and take with them, such as reading at up to a second grade level at the age of three! At the same time, we have always asked ourselves what we can do to make a difference in the lives of underprivileged children across the world who do not have access to the blessings our children do. Fueled by the love we have for the world's youth, we came up with a plan. The master plan is lovingly called P.E.T.E. (Poverty Eradication Through Education).
The founders and teachers at SMA spend a minimum of 2.5 hours per week contributing on a volunteer basis to our world focus. For every "Big Sister" school, we open a "Little Sister" school in an impoverished area of the world. The children in these areas attend free of charge and benefit from the same incredible level of education our children do in our "Big Sister" schools. The children are taught in the Montessori method and immersed in Mandarin, Spanish and English. They also achieve computer proficiency at a very early age, and are raised in an environment in which leadership is instilled and they are taught to create whatever they imagine, thereby teaching them that absolutely anything in life is possible because they see it happen first hand! Endowed with an education like this, they are afforded tremendous power over their realm of existence, so much so that their realm has no boundaries--a stark contrast to the bleak reality that temporarily surrounds them. These children, along with our children in the "Big Sister" schools, are our future. Through education, poverty can and must be eradicated.
Our latest "Little Sister" school is located in Mindo, Ecuador. We are in the process of acquiring the land and construction will begin in October. Please join us in our excitement and follow us while we add pictures of the school as construction progresses. Volunteer opportunities abound. Please contact your local school director for information on how you can contribute to making a difference in the world!
See photos below of a school in Ecuador that is serving as our prototype (with MAJOR modifications to the safety of the children). We visited it June 18, 2011.
